Army Hearing Program

Mission 

To maximize hearing and communication thus contributing to survivability, lethality, mission effectiveness and quality of life through four distinct yet overlapping pillars: Hearing Readiness, Clinical Hearing Services, Operational Hearing Services and Hearing Conservation.

Vision

Promote early detection and identification of changes in hearing, provide education on hearing protection, the effects of noise, hearing loss, and prevention of hearing loss before it occurs according to DA PAM 40-501, DODI 6055.12, and AR 40-5.

Services

Hearing Screenings

Hearing exams are provided to all service members and reservist by appointment only.  Appointments can be made through the Central Appointment Line by calling 762-408-7300.

Hearing Protection Fittings

Service members can request to be fit with appropriate Hearing Protection Devices (HPDs) during hearing examinations or by walk-in for Hearing Protection Device fittings.

Hearing Readiness

Ensure Soldiers have the required hearing capability to perform their job-specific duties, as well as the appropriate and properly fitted hearing protection devices for their mission.

Clinical hearing services for Soldiers

Determine auditory fitness-for-duty by determining the degree and cause of hearing loss and measuring a Soldier’s hearing ability against a performance or medical standard. 

For Service Members seeking a comprehensive exam and/or hearing aid services, please call 706-787-2996 to schedule an appointment with a Provider.

Clinical hearing services are performed for noise-exposed DoD Civilians as part of the Army Hearing Conservation Program at Occupational Health and should call 762-408-.

Operational hearing services

Noise assessment and abatement strategies, improved communication, and the use of specialized hearing protection devices, such as electronic hearing protection designed to maintain auditory situational awareness in military operations.

Hearing Conservation

  • Industrial-focused and is instrumental in preventing NIHL in primarily fixed-facility work environments. Hearing conservation efforts are conducted in support of both the Civilian workforce and Soldiers working in industrial-based settings.
